After two of Ruby Franke’s children were found bruised and covered with duct tape, her husband, Kevin Franke, was questioned by Utah police. In his interview on August 30, 2023, Kevin Franke said he trusted Jodi Hildebrandt and claimed she was a very honest and truthful person. When police told him what had happened to his children, he said “this sounds like a made up story” and it sounded like “a horror movie.”

The two women convicted of multiple counts of felony child had very different conversations during police interrogations in 2023.

But one thing was consistent from Ruby Franke and Jodi Hildebrant's interviews: both exercised their right to have an attorney present to observe the conversation.

After each was given a chance to explain what happened after having their rights read to them, investigators put both women in cuffs and transported them to jail together.

Bodycam footage shows Ruby Franke being arrested on August 30, 2023, after her 12-year-old son escaped from Jodi Hildebrandt’s home, begging her neighbors to take him to the police station. The YouTube mom appears angry and annoyed as officers put handcuffs on her and take her to the police department. The officer who transported Ruby to the department noted that she is “definitely not a talker,” noting how she remained silent whenever possible. Franke was charged with multiple counts of child abuse, four of which she pleaded guilty to.

Body cam footage released March 22, 2024, shows when police first made contact with Jodi Hildebrandt after one of Ruby Franke's children showed up on a neighbor's doorstep, emaciated and injured. After physically removing her from the house while they attempted to find the child's sibling, Hildebrandt was allowed to go back inside so she didn't have to stand out in the Ivins heat - something the children were subjected to for days at a time, and one of the specific charges to which Hildebrandt would eventually plead guilty.
