As I’ve attested to in prior videos, AA and NA can be incredible as recovery resource!! But they have their limitations.
The problem with putting down the drink and drug without addressing the root of the problem, can be a nightmare. Even in AA, they have a term for it, “dry drunk’. The person is in mental anguish but without their medicine, the drink or drug. What I have also witnessed many times, is in essence a game of ‘Wack a mole” where the addiction simply changes shape and is moved to food or sex. Especially if you suffer from co-morbidity, you need to look at the root of the problem and heal from this.
The community of AA and NA can then be wonderful to diminish shame, to feel “a part of”, to be supported.
My own experience, my studies, witnessing others and working in the field I believe you need to hear this and decide for yourself.

Bill Wilson got sober, but not just because of the Big Book of AA.
Why AA was the right solution for Bill Wilson
The conclusion, now we have (cut off half the last sentence). The solution.
Bill Wilson was a highly traumatised child
Where AA and NA don’t work…
As I’ve attested to in prior videos, AA and NA can be incredible as recovery resources!! But they have their limitations.

The community of AA and NA can then be wonderful to diminish shame, to feel “a part of”, to be supported and to learn some amazing tools. Getting into service is also very valuable.
The challenge is that AA and NA do not treat complex childhood trauma. Bill Wilson himself was a traumatised child and also healed through a spiritual experience (as part of LSD trials) not merely the 12 steps. Even the wonderful founder needed outside tools. Btw, before commenting on what may appear controversial if you don't know about Bill W and LSD please do some research and you'll find it's widely publicised.
My own experience, my studies, witnessing others and working in the field I believe you need to listen to the video, do your own research, hit some meetings and decide for yourself.
Personally AA and NA have been wonderful for me, 90 in 90, the meetings, a great sponsor at the beginning. But AA and NA alone did not get me sober. I needed an expert clinicalpsychologist, purposeful work, exercise, meditation, volunteer work and yoga. A combination of cognitive and somatic work, along with the program not only get me sober, but also in excellent mental and physical health.
It also pains me to see people who are really struggling and simply just doing more meetings when a psychologist or psychiatrist could really really help them. I understand that not everyone has the financial resources. But years of relapsing will cost a lot, personally, emotionally and financially, so even if you can get a little bit of professional help early on, you can ultimately save yourself money.
And for anyone without the financial resources to do anything outside AA and/or NA then I'm trying to give away as much of my professional expertise as possible here.
I welcome comments on peoples personal experiences with the programs 🙏.
