Tanno Sutekatsu (丹野捨勝) - Hakone Demo Uncut

I also know that his iaido's influence is similar to that of my own in that his execution shows a clear influence of Kochi-based iaido -- specifically that of Yamamoto Harusuke -- and there are clear examples of this to be seen in the demonstration featured here.

Tanno's hakamabiki, furikaburi and kaewaza (Oroshi in particular) all bear the signature of Yamamoto Harusuke's interpretation of Muso Jikiden Eishinryu. What makes Tanno-hanshi's iaido unique, however is his choice of timing, which presents in a lively and realistic manner. Tanno was 59 years old at the time this video was filmed, and to the present day , his unique timing remains and remarkably enough, with even more refinement one would expect from deepened experience.
