BJ Motors is proud to present this stunning 1966 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 Hertz in classic Black with Gold Stripes. This stunning GT350H is serial number 6S822, making it car number 822 out of 999 units produced in 1966 for the Hertz Rent-a-Racer program.

In 1966, after a switch in allegiance from Chevrolet to Ford, Hertz placed an order for 1,000 Mustang Shelby GT350s as part of its new rental fleet. This was in response to a growing clientele consisting of patrons who wanted the ability to rent the ultimate sports car experience without spending an arm and a leg.

The Hertz GT350 Mustangs were essentially stock GT350s, with racing-capable brakes, 289 V8 engines, and beefed up suspension. The first 84 cars were equipped with a 4-speed manual transmission, but the rest were fitted with 3-speed automatics after it was realized that most normal folks couldnt drive a stick.

After their rental service was completed, most of the GT350Hs were sold at auction; this example, a New York rental, was sold to its first official owner somewhere in the Northeastern United States.

In 2000, a gentleman in Canada acquired the car, and shortly thereafter, a complete restoration was performed. First, the mechanical restoration of the correct K-code 289 V8 was carried out by Riverside Restoration in Ontario. The restoration also included a full respray in its factory Black/Gold paint scheme on its original body panels. An interesting factoid was that the owner was able to get Carroll Shelby's signature by making a donation to Shelby's Children Hearts Fund, and the signature remains untouched today. Factory Air-Conditioning was also added for more comfortable driving experience.
