Top News | Despite their moral and legal triumph on Tuesday in seizing the mayorship of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress still have a long way to go. Three AAP councillors had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by the time the Supreme Court declared the January 30 election, which had declared a BJP mayor to be null. This indicates that the BJP now has 17 council members in the civic body's general house, which is the same as the combined AAP-Congress group (whose numbers are down from 20 to 17). The only councillor from Akali Dal and an ex-officio member of the corporation, Kirron Kher, is another MP from Chandigarh who the BJP can rely on.
