Pikmin 3DX - All Fruits Speedrun in 9 days (first ever)

Описание к видео Pikmin 3DX - All Fruits Speedrun in 9 days (first ever)

This video is the first completion of Pikmin 3 in 9 days, collecting all fruits – it is also the first in-game days reduction since the game originally came out on Wii U in July 2013. This was made possible using a specific trick in Twilight River that allows to fully clear the area in one day. The other days follow a similar route than what is used in all fruits speedruns with some tweaks to grow Pikmin, produce sprays, and trigger cutscenes to setup for Twilight River. Each day was played separately and stitched together in this video. It is unlikely that this Twilight River strat is used in RTA speedruns because it's very slow, so unless a much more consistent setup is found RTA speedruns will stay at 10 days. More information on the Twilight River trick can be found below.

Because you unlock all Pikmin types but blues by day 5, it is possible to collect 13/15 fruits in Twilight River on day 5 by regular means, with just 2 underwater fruits requiring blues missing (Crunchy Deluge and Citrus Lump). However, a player called Drought Ender found a glitch that allows to collect underwater fruits with winged Pikmin, which makes it possible to collect 15/15 fruits in Twilight River on your first visit.

The glitch consists in whistling a winged Pikmin 1 frame before it dies to a hazard (water bubble or fire). If you manage to do that, that Pikmin will be in an "invincible" state. In that state, the Pikmin can be dismissed and charged, but not whistled or thrown. The Pikmin can carry fruits/bodies normally, cannot drown and cannot be killed. This allows to carry underwater fruits with winged Pikmin, making blues almost useless! This glitch was found last month, and is a variation of the crushing glitch found in 2016 by another player called Marty. The crushing glitch also allowed to create "invincible" Pikmin, but only worked for grounded carriers as winged Pikmin cannot get crushed. Underwater fruits unfortunately cannot be carried by red/yellow/rock "invincible" Pikmin as they don't know the path to the ship, this is why we had to wait for Drought Ender's trick to make this happen. After Drought Ender found the trick, Sbudiver was the first player to get 5 "invincible" wings in a day and carry the Citrus Lump without blues. After that, Luarce was the first player to get 10 "invincible" wings and carry both the Crunchy Deluge and Citrus Lump to the ship without blues. Luarce's, Drought Ender's and Marty's videos links can be found below.

This glitch also makes it possible to collect all fruits but 1 without unlocking blue Pikmin. The only fruit requiring blue Pikmin is the Wayward Moon, as unlocking blues is mandatory to load the Quaggled Mireclops (and therefore to make the story progress and beat the game).

It might or might not be clear from the video, but getting winged Pikmin in the "invincible" state is extremely precise and difficult. Getting 10 in one day to lift the Crunchy Deluge is challenging; and doing so while collecting all other fruits + growing wings is even more difficult. It took me around 50 attempts to successfully pull this out, with multiple very frustrating attempts with only 9 wings on the fruit (or getting it lifted, but not making it to the ship in time). The route I followed was trying to maximize the number of wings grown, to increase my odds at the glitch, while collecting fruits efficiently.
