American Overture for Band | Joseph Wilcox Jenkins

Although it is considered a staple of the wind band repertoire, "American Overture for Band" humbly began as the first concert band composition by then Army Field Band staff arranger Joseph W. Jenkins in 1955. It remains his most successful work and, in his words, he is "hard-pressed to duplicate its success." Concert band enthusiasts can appreciate how nearly every section of the ensemble is featured at some point in the piece, and various soloists along with the horn section are given ample time in the spotlight throughout. Under the direction of Lt. Col. Domingos Robinson, we hope you enjoy one of our most treasured works!
