MIPS staat voor: Multi-directional Impact Protection System. Bij een val bewegen onze hersenen een beetje in ons hoofd en worden hierbij beschermd door een laagje vocht dat met onze hersenen verbonden is aan de schedel. Bij een val van je paard is kans op hersenletsel groot. Het MIPS-systeem onderscheidt zich van de andere caps doordat in de helm een extra, dunne schaal is aangebracht. Deze beweegt, net zoals de hersenen, tijdens een val een klein beetje mee. Hierdoor is de klap die de hersenen krijgen een stuk kleiner. Ook verklein je de hiermee de kans op hersenletsel.
