Yakima's FrontLoader is their most versatile bike rack. It fits virtually all cross bars and takes a massive range of bikes. The bike is held on by the wheels so it's a great option if you need to carry bikes with carbon frames or other bikes that won't fit in a standard rack.

To demonstrate the fitting process we have filmed using one of our car roof demonstration stands. Obviously there is a difference in height but it is actually easier fitting to the roof of a vehicle than to this stand, as long as you follow the instructional information provided.

Straight out of the box both front and rear clamps are closed. Open the rear clamp by turning the t-bolt to allow it to pass through the slot in the clamp. Now open the front clamp by turning the front knob counter clockwise.

Remove the plastic lock cores and install the lock barrels into the front clamp and cable lock. This is easier to do before fitting to the roof of your vehicle.

Carefully place the FrontLoader on the cross bars by lowering the front clamp into place over the cross bar. A towel placed on the roof before fitting can help to avoid any scratches to the roof. Now slide the jaw of the rear clamp under the rear cross bar.

Push the FrontLoader so that the inside of the front clamp sits flush with the cross bar. With one hand holding the bike rack in position, pull the front knob out and spin clockwise until the front clamp is gripping the cross bar, then tighten until hand tight. The front knob must be horizontal before locking in place.

Now adjust the rear clamp if necessary according to the size of your cross bar. Now close the rear clamp around the cross bar and pass the t-bolt down through the opening of the clamp and rotate until the t-bolt sits in the slot. Tighten the wing nut until hand tight.

Open the wheel loop to its 45-degree position.

The rear clamp is set for typical installations but in certain situations you can adjust the positioning and orientation as well as the wheel holder. All you need to do is remove the end cap by squeezing the release tabs and pulling towards you. Now you can slide both the rear clamp and wheel holder off and adjust the orientation before re fitting. Refitting the end cap requires you to just push back into the frame until you hear both release tabs click back into place.

Tuck the wheel strap into the slot to make space for the tyre.

Now take the measurement of your tyres and match it to the corresponding setting on the wheel loop. Lift both red catches of the wheel restraint and slide into the corresponding position, clicking down the red catches to lock in place.

Lift your bike and place onto the carrier. make sure to bend your knees to avoid damaging your back. The cool thing about the FrontLoader is that you can now roll the bike forward into the wheel loop and the smaller hoop will engage and lever up behind the tyre. Keeping one hand on the bike tighten the red locking handle clockwise until hand tight.

Secure the rear wheel by pulling the strap through the spokes around the wheel and insert into the buckle and ratchet up and down until the strap is tight.

Attach the cable lock for extra security and lock in place.
Your bike carrier is now ready to use
