Construction of the ballastless track has commenced for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project in Surat. This track system, known as the J-slab ballastless track, marks a significant departure from traditional Indian railway and metro tracks. Unlike conventional tracks, this high-speed rail route will be built with a six-layered track system. It utilizes Japanese technology, specifically the J-slab ballastless track system.

In contrast to the conventional ballasted track, which consists of rails fixed to sleepers supported by crushed stones, the ballastless track employs a reinforced concrete (RC) bed for enhanced stability and performance. This innovation represents a notable advancement in India's rail infrastructure.
