On January 26, 2015, Ty Underwood was found dead in the driver’s seat of a car that had crashed into a yard in Tyler, Texas. She had been shot three times causing her to lose control of the vehicle.


When police learned that Ty was trans, they questioned if her murder could have been a hate crime.

Scouring through cell phone and social media records, detectives discovered that Ty had been in a relationship with Texas College football player Carlton Champion Jr. The pair had planned to meet up the night Ty was killed.


Detectives also learned Ty had shared that she was trans with Champion... and had intended to break up with him.


With Champion quickly rising in their suspect list, police discover he has a warrant for violation of probation. They arrest him and bring him down to the station for questioning…
