The video clip shows our hike around Tête des Toillies (3175 m), in the southern Alps at the Italian border.

It is a classic high-mountain hike that goes over three mountain passes, runs in two countries, and passes several alpine lakes.

We stayed at St-Véran (2040 m) in Queyras. There’s a shuttle bus (5km) along a dirt track to the trail head near Chapelle de Clausis during the peak season.

From the shuttle, we first walked 2.7 km to a crossroads near Refuge de la Blanche where our loop trail started at 2500 m elev. We had decided to do the hike anticlockwise.

1. We ascended to Col de la Noir, 2955 m, the highest point of this hike.
2. We then descended from the col, passing Lac de la Noir, then several lakes near Col de Longet (2641 m)
3. We crossed Col de Longet (2673 m) to Italy, then descended a bit before forking left, heading towards Col Blanchet (2897 m) and back to France.
4. From Col Blanchet, we descended back to our starting point.
