We’ve been talking a lot about pricing lately, we know. But only because it’s an incredibly tough thing to get right in the context of platform payments.

When embedding payments into your platform, revenue usually comes from a fee charged for the payment. This fee should never be too high, making it prohibitive to use your platform and causing disintermediation (users making the payment off-platform) or at worst, churn. It also shouldn’t be too low, as then you’re not just giving your services away for free, you are paying for them.

As you can see, a delicate balance needs to be struck. And this is only possible with the full context of each payment, which in this case contains an understanding of the fees you are being charged as a platform by your PSP, the card networks and banks (IC++). Crucial context many platforms and marketplaces are missing today.
