History of Kalika Durga Parameshwari Temple

Behind this spiritual place, there is a tale. This place was struck by a heavy draught, it didn’t rain for years. Even Brahmins were forced to eat meat, and the people were on the verge of abandoning their principles. This situation troubled the great Sage Jabali. Jabali realized the root cause of all this through his’ Jnana Drishti.’ He found that the’ rakshasa’ Arunasura who escaped death and fled when Shambasura was killed by Goddess Durga had extended his life span by following his Guru’s teachings. He had made the people stop all yagas and yajnas as revenge against the’ devas,’ resulting in years of drought and scarcity.

Jabali wanted to put an end to human suffering and agreed to do a yajna in order to please the devas. He asked Devendra to allow him for the yajna to take Kamadhenu. Devendra asked Jabali instead to take Nandini’s daughter from Kamadhenu. Nandini declined to go with Jabaali to the world where evil was prevalent. After many protests, Jabali cursed in his frustration that she was raised on earth as a river. Nandini prayed for mercy in the realization of the error. Relentingly, Jabali urged her to pray to Goddess Durga to save her from the curse, Nandini appealed to Goddess Durga, who appeared to her and told her that while Nandini was born as a river, she, Durga, fulfilled the curse.

Apart from that, Arunasura acquired a boon from Brahma that he would not be killed by any two-legged or four-legged being or any weapon. With Gayatri Mantra, Brahma also powered him. Arunasura defeated the devas after gaining these powers and entered heaven. The Devas were praying for help from Goddess Durga.

One day, Goddess appeared as a beautiful woman in the garden of Arunasura. Arunasura approached her when she saw the lady. The lovely lady reminded him that Shambasura had been killed and that Arunasura had escaped death. Arunasura got angry and tries with the sword to kill the woman. Suddenly, the goddess became a stone. Arunasura slashed the stone with the sword, then from the stone came a vast swarm of bees and stung him.
