Описание к видео Summon Night: Swordcraft Story - Central Craftsman Castle

Summon Night: Swordcraft Story was released in Japan in 2003 and North America in 2006 for the Gameboy Advance. The soundtrack was composed by Minako Adachi, Kohei Matsuoka, and Kiyohiro Sada.

When I first heard this composition, I didn't like it for sounding too much like a generic "castle theme" like every other RPG has. That opinion changed after some careful attention to the inner voice leading - it sounds a little like Scarlatti, no?

The original "Central Craftsman Castle" uses only 3 voices. While it sounds great in the original, I found it was a little lacking in substance when I made the switch to the Trumpet - so I wrote a new 4th part to go along with it. The original parts are played by me in blue, and the new part is played by me in red (with a couple of exchanges between parts for ease in voice leading).

The bass line would ideally be played by a euphonium, but I played the part an octave up and then used a voice changer to bring the pitch down to where it should be. Aside from that, only some slight EQ adjustments, short reverb, and cross fades between takes were used in editing.

One final note - the trumpet requires air to play. More to the point, if you can't breathe it doesn't work. To that end, these parts clearly aren't meant to be played live as is. Rather than try to use some editing tricks to make it look easy, feel free to watch me struggle to stay conscious.

If that spoils the illusion for you, so be it. The audio is the important part anyway.
