World's Loudest Acoustic Bass : Two Acoustic Basses Compared

Описание к видео World's Loudest Acoustic Bass : Two Acoustic Basses Compared

In this video, we compare a full-scale acoustic bass to an experimental prototype micro bass. The Ibanez AEB5E standard acoustic bass features a jumbo acoustic body and a 32" scale length. The Cordoba c5 TurboBass has a classical guitar body (grand concert size), which is about 75% of the internal volume of the Ibanez bass. The scale length of the Cordoba TurboBass is 25 1/2". The TurboTail diverts string tension from the soundboard to the tailblock, protecting the soundboard from any temporary or long-term deformation. This means that a very light soundboard can be used with any strings, including steel strings.

The TurboTail enhances bass response by converting string vibrations into the fundamental (transverse) mode. Obviously, a classical-size micro bass is more comfortable to hold than a full-size, full-scale bass. Plus, the shorter scale length makes it easier to fret and reduces hand stress. You might imagine that a smaller, shorter-scale bass should be quieter than a full-scale bass, right?

Therefore, when you hear this comparison, you may be surprised to find that a classical guitar with bass strings and the TurboTail is actually louder and has a better bass response than a full-size acoustic bass. Please let us know what you think. If you have any suggestions for strings, guitar bodies, or video comparisons that you think would be useful, please comment. Thanks for watching.
