Masinagudi can also be reached from Ooty via Gudalur but this route is 75 kms.

The distance to Masinagudi is only 30 km via Kalhati pass.

Therefore, people first choose Kallatti Road, which is easily accessible to travelers. If you are looking for safety then go through Gudalur only.

Not only is the trek down 36 hairpin bends, the pass is one of the most rugged roads in South India. Another rugged road in Tamil Nadu is the Kolli Hills road with 70 hairpin bends. It is not so dangerous because there are no such steep bends.

While leaving Ooty, only local residents' vehicles will pass through this road. It is known that accidents have occurred due to lack of experience on this route.

The travel ban on this road came into effect after a major car accident in 2018. It was learned that it took 3 days to find the vehicle and the location of the accident that happened that day.


A board has been installed at the beginning of the pass which records the information of the accidents so far.


At a distance of 7 km from Ooty bus stand on the Gudalur route, Sancharichu Talai Kunda village has been reached.
Only government buses and local passengers will be allowed through it.

Only TN 43 registration or Nilgiri license holders can cross this check post.
