Platforms like Instagram, Youtube, and Tiktok are losing money because of their short-form content. This may seem confusing at first glance as the media would have you believe that everyone’s attention span is shrinking and that short-form content is the future, but this is really not true.
Even though reels are very popular, they don't generate enough money for Meta compared to posts, stories and long-form videos.
The same is the case with Youtube Shorts and Tiktok.
So Meta announced that they will end paying their creators, for posting reels.
This video explains the various reasons companies are pivoting back to their main sources of revenue and pulling back on short-form content.
