Automatic Table of Contents and Authorities in Word Overview

This is a very brief overview of how to do automatic table of contents and table of authorities in a legal brief using Microsoft Word.

In this video we have already created heading styles to format heading levels 1-5. We don't explain how to set up the styles to automatically number headings, but if you are familiar with creating styles, you will need to use the Multilevel List numbering option as opposed to standard numbering when creating your heading 1-5 styles.

We also show how to mark case and statute citations and then how to automatically generate both the Table of Contents and Authorities.

Using automatic TOC and TOA in Word can make the process quicker, more accurate (especially for longer briefs) and once you get familiar with the process, a much easier way to create TOCs and TOAs.
