“Murder of Press freedom…” Australia Today Founder slams Canada’s Ban

Prominent diaspora outlet 'The Australia Today' Chief Editor Jitarth Jai Bharadwaj on Friday voiced its concern after Canada blocked its social media handles and pages following the airing of a press conference featuring External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong.
Speaking to ANI, Jitarth Jai Bharadwaj, Founder & Editor in Chief of Australia Today, said, "We were informed by our readers and followers that they were not able to view our content on social media... There was a notification that our page has been blocked and is not available for viewing by the order of the Canadian government... This is the murder of press freedom. This is not free speech. This is not how democracies act. This is how dictators act and cramp down on the press... Indian Diaspora across the world is hardworking, vibrant, and important. However, their stories are being left out by mainstream media. And our outlet covers issues of importance for the Indian diaspora... Gurpatwant Singh Pannun threatened us and even put a picture of me and my team asking his supporters to harm us... When the Canadian government and his stooge could not stop us, they resorted to banning us..."
