UK Weather Forecast: Frosty Start - Becoming Milder Later (Wednesday 22nd December 2021)

Good morning everyone and welcome to today's UK weather forecast on Wednesday 22nd December 2021.

Current Situation: High pressure is ridging northwards allowing low pressure to move in from the Atlantic...

Today:

Wednesday has started dry and frosty with a hard frost in the north. There's a mix of clear spells and variable cloud with patchy fog in the north and west too.

Through the rest of the day most central and eastern regions will stay dry with bright or sunny spells bit also areas of cloud while the west turns cloudy and wet with outbreaks of rain moving in from the Atlantic. Temperatures will become mild in the west at 8C to 10C but most central, northern and eastern regions will be cold again with temperatures of 0C to 6C.

Tonight:

Showery rain will spread eastwards across the country with some heavy and persistent rain in the north and west. In the south the rain will be patchier. Temperatures become much milder tonight at 5C to 10C.

Tomorrow:

A band of heavy rain pushes into the northern half of the country but the rain will be light and patchy in the south. A cloudy day with mist and murk over hills. DeSpite the wet weather at least it will be mild with temperatures of 7C to 12C. Watch out for colder air to dig back in across Scotland on Thursday night turning the rain to snow here.

Outlook:

Friday (Christmas Eve) Heavy rain in the west later with patchy rain and snow for Scotland. Dry elsewhere. Cold in the north. Mild in the south.

Saturday (Christmas Day) Very cold for Scotland. Showery rain across England and Wales with a risk of sleet or snow on the northern edge as cold easterly winds develop.

Sunday (Boxing Day) Snow through parts of Wales and the Midlands on Christmas Night, gradually dying away through Boxing Day. Cold with snow showers further north. Rain and mild temperatures on the south coast otherwise very cold.
