The Montréal métro is truly an art gallery. Dozens of murals, stained glass panels and sculptures of all shapes and colours were installed in most of the network’s 68 stations, for the enjoyment and benefit of all métro riders. The métro is an essential component of Montréal’s civic heritage and often appears in movies and ads filmed on location throughout the city.
As their public steward, STM is also responsible for showcasing the works of art, a collection envied by several métro networks around the world. It is a source of pride for STM, as well as for most of its customers. It is no coincidence, then, that Montréal métro stations, particularly Champ-de-Mars, are repeatedly ranked among the world’s most beautiful stations.
Between 2016 and 2021, we commissioned 71 new trains for our métro network. The AZUR project was completed on time, with $500 million in savings compared to the initial budget of $2.5 billion. In 2019, the project was also a finalist for the prestigious PMI-International Project of the Year Award.
Real-time information allows you to be better informed at all times. It’s great for checking how much time there is before the next bus leaves your bus stop. You get a better estimate of your bus’s departure time, and you can track its location in real time. Several information tools are now available, such as schedules on our mobile website, the Transit and Chrono apps, passenger information terminals and more.
The Conference of the Parties (COP15)—a convention that brings together leaders from around the world—will be held in Montréal from December 7 to 19. We are proud of our involvment in the planning of the COP15, an event whose mission is directly linked to our purpose and values.
We are working closely with the City of Montréal, the SPVM and COP15 authorities to prepare for this event and the impact that it will have on our bus, métro and paratransit networks.
Operational impacts
We could start feeling the impact as early as November 7, when the organization will begin installing fencing for the safety perimeter around the Palais des Congrès.
Here are some of the impacts we know:
* At the request of authorities, Place-d’Armes métro station will be closed from December 1 to 20. The métro will run from Champ-de-Mars to Square-Victoria-OACI, without stopping at Place-d’Armes, in either direction.
* Bus lines in the area will be rerouted.
* Paratransit services may not be able to cover stops in and around the safety perimeter.
Course of the event
Please note that due to the evolving safety protocols during the event, measures that are in effect could change rapidly. Our real-time information tools will be updated to reflect the current conditions.
