This song is called "Alpine stars", like one of the best-known European mountain flowers, named In German Edelweiss. It blooms between July and September, it prefers impervious rocky limestone places at 2000–2900 m altitude.
The song was written during First World War by Arturo Zardini, the language is the furlan dialect, spoke in the very north-eastern part of Italy. It's about the ghost of a dead soldier saying farewell to his girlfriend. (Translation in subtitles).
I sang this song at dawn in Asiago Upland, in a place called Magnaboschi Valley, not far from a war cemetery.
Questa canzone si intitola "Stelle alpine", come uno dei più noti fiori delle Alpi, in tedesco chiamato Edelweiss. Fiorisce tra luglio e settembre presso impervi terreni rocciosi tra i 2.000 e 2.900 metri di quota.
La canzone è stata scritta in lingua friulana da Arturo Zardini mentre si trovava sfollato a Firenze a causa della Prima Guerra Mondiale; il suo paese, Pontebba, si trovava sulla linea del fronte. Parla dello spirito di un soldato morto in battaglia che dà l'addio alla sua fidanzata.
Ho cantato questa canzone all'alba presso la Val Magnaboschi, Altopiano dei 7 Comuni, non lontano da un cimitero di guerra.
