This is the gameplay of a wave from one of my Gears of War 4 Horde matches to show a “sample” of the Scout Class action.
Despite the name can make us think of the Scout as a sort of GoW version of the typical RPG “Rogue” (in fact in many Sci-Fi games Scout is the name used for a similar class) with the “high damage/ low survivability” thing we all know, in Gears of War 4 Horde 3.0 the Scout, when equipped with the proper “skill cards”, can be truly a tank while dashing out a great amount of damage with Shotgun ( I love you, Gnasher) and melee attacks.

With all the boosts to close quarter damage and health/health regeneration and the bonus to the picked up power, the Scout is one class you should always try to have in your team.

This video’s gameplay is somewhat “not very standard” Scout playstyle.
It was Wave 27 and from the five starting players only two of us were still playing (it happens quite often and one of the reason I never reached wave 50) and so I focused on the close quarter combat without paying too much attention to pick up power.

In standard circumstances Scouts should always try to pick up as much power they can: their bonus applies only during waves and the power they pick up between waves does not benefit from that bonus.
However don’t risk to be downed in the middle of enemy ranks just to gather more power, unless, of course, you know a team mate is near to revive you.

A couple of waves before the one from this video I swapped my Retro Lancer for the Torque Bow because I run out of ammo for my Lancer and supplies were not around. I decided to use it for the next waves.

My play style was quite reckless since I may have taken several risk, especially when I rushed to yank and execute the Swarm Drone while the Swarm Drone Elite was coming behind.

Since we were just two I wanted to put some pressure to the horde and I also wanted to highlight the class’ survivability.
Perhaps at higher difficulties it could have been a problem but let’s not forget my Scout in the video was actually Level 3 with just two Skill Cards equipable and they are also of low level (the shotgun damage boost has been upgraded once and the health boost is on the base level).
At a higher level with the proper cards evolved (there is also a Skill Card that convert part of the Shotgun/Melee damage dealt into health) I do believe the Scout can be used so “aggressively” even at higher difficulties. I’ll test my theory as soon as I manage to evolve my Scout to those levels.

The Scout is surely a force to be reckoned with.
