Welcome to the world cup travelers. In today's video, we will review the new qualifying format from CONMEBOL for the 2026 fifa world Cup.

Historically, this confederation has been the most competitive one. 30% of this region has already won the world cup a total of 10 times (5 Brazil, 3 Argentina, and 2 Uruguay) chile has been in 3rd place, and a couple of teams have previously made the quarter-finals such as Colombia and Paraguay.

With the expanded tournament in 2026. Conmebol will have a total of 6 direct slots and 1 intercontinental playoff slot, for a maximum of 7 slots. That's 70% of the Confederation participating in the finals.

CONMEBOL qualifying consists of a single 10-team group playing a single home and away match against each other. The top 6 teams will qualify directly while the 7th place will have an extra opportunity in the Intercontinental playoff.

Ecuador will begin qualifying with a 3-point deduction due to a court ruling for falsifying birth documents for Byron Castillo in the previous world cup qualification cycle.

CONMEBOL qualifying begins on September 7th, 2023, and ends on September 2025.
