Dr. Kaisa Karttunen, Senior Natural Resources Officer at the Food and Agriculture Organization, introduces the relationship of climate change to food security and nutrition. Food security and nutritional status is affected by climate change but in turn affects people’s capacity to adapt their lives and livelihoods. Climate change will likely affect access to nutritious food through the decreased availability of food, fluctuations in supply, damage to infrastructure, new safety hazards, as well as loss of livelihood assets, income and employment opportunities. Appropriate responses are necessary but the root causes of climate change must be addressed by a reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

This presentation was organized by the Mitigation of Climate Change in Agriculture (MICCA) Programme and the Global Forum on Food Security and Nutrition (FSN Forum) at the Food and Agriculture Organization in March
