The deep Gulf is home to many incredible coral communities on the seafloor at depths beyond the reach of recreational divers. However, divers with advanced training and specialized systems can reach these communities at depths up to 1,000 feet. In the summer of 2024, a collaborative expedition between the U.S. Navy Experimental Diving Unit (NEDU), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and many other partners utilized saturation diving to conduct deep sea restoration. Learn about the advanced skills and equipment required for this mission, and the multiple ways these divers implemented restoration efforts.
