The excitement and stress of auditions and performances can cause us to tighten up in ways that limit range of motion for our breathing anatomy and incline us to push. So can the frustrations that sometimes arise in practice sessions and rehearsals.

Really, anything that stresses us out has the potential to cause tightness and stiffness in our tissues. Condition your breathing to reduce the impact of stress on your singing, and you are likely to reduce the overall impact of stress on your life.
