20th Annual Markoe-DePorres Social Justice Lecture
David Hollenbach, S.J., University Chair in Human Rights & International Justice at Boston College, will deliver the lecture. He also delivered the first Markoe-DePorres Social Justice Lecture at Creighton in 1994.
The Markoe-DePorres lecture series is sponsored by the Justice and Peace Studies Program in Creighton's College of Arts and Sciences, in honor of Fr. John Markoe, S.J., who started the Omaha DePorres Club in 1947. The club included Creighton students and members of the community united against racial injustice. Their patron, Martin de Porres, a Peruvian of mixed ancestry, was canonized by the Catholic Church in 1962.
