Fresno State upset top-seeded Tulsa, 75-72, to clinch their first WAC men's tournament championship. The Bulldogs, who were playing in front of their home crowd at Selland Arena, trailed by as many as 10 points in the second half but rallied to take the lead in the final minutes. Fresno State guard Roderick Wilmont hit a key three-pointer with 1:15 left to give the Bulldogs a 73-71 lead, and they held on for the victory. Wilmont led Fresno State with 21 points, and Melvin Ely added 18 points and 10 rebounds. Tulsa was led by Tony Heard, who had 24 points. The loss snapped Tulsa's 10-game winning streak.

The victory gave Fresno State an automatic bid to the 2000 NCAA Tournament. They were joined in the tournament by WAC regular season champion Tulsa, who earned an at-large bid.
