Firing up the first gen HPI RS4 after a very long time!
It's rear wheel drive. The front was damaged a lot, probably from a crash, and i got it for free.
I decided to turn it into a more or less realistic looking Endurance Racer where the added parts not only looked realistic but had a function aswell.
Made a carbon fiber upper deck and front shocktower, made an undertray and diffuser, put a Saleen S7R bodyshell on it with a homemade rear wing. I rerouted the exhaust through the rear and put Tamiya 2mm offset dish wheels on it, with Tamiya hard tires at the front and HPI standard tires at the rear.
The rear differential is filled with Tamiya AW grease.
Never restored the front driveline, so i repositioned the battery pack to the rear for extra grip. The steering servo has been repositioned as much to the rear as possible, aswell as the (27 mHz) receiver.
The (rear) brake is dampened by a spring to prevent the tires from locking up. Although in this case it could've been set a little tighter. It has a rediculously long braking distance.
The fuel is a mix of 3 brands, lol! All 3 have different nitro percentages and different oils, but it runs quite well.
The engine is a HPI .15 NitroStar with an HPI R5 glow plug.
The 2-speed was an original optional part, and it still works like new.
The exhaust system is also an original optional part, aswell as the rear carbon fiber upper deck and rear carbon fiber shocktower.
Yes, i'm doing basically nothing other than flying by, but i just love the sound of this engine :)
Hope you like it too!
