The Meaningful Measurement Playbook – a new resource from the Skoll Centre and the Old Fire Station - is designed to support social impact leaders who want to use measurement as a tool for learning, not just accountability.

The playbook introduces the key principles of this approach and offers practical guidance for getting started. It also features a case study from the Old Fire Station, an arts centre in Oxford, that developed a storytelling-based evaluation method.

By listening to the people closest to their work—artists, staff, partners, and those with lived experience—they uncovered what truly mattered and reshaped their strategy as a result.

Their method has since been adopted by over 120 organisations, from local authorities to national charities—demonstrating how storytelling can build a more human, inclusive approach to understanding impact.
