Co-commissioned by several orchestras including the National Arts Centre Orchestra, Wynton Marsalis composed his Tuba Concerto in 2021. Originally written for Carol Jantsch, principal tuba of the Philadelphia Orchestra, she premiered the piece with the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin on December 9, 2021. It has since been performed by several other tubists and orchestras; this presentation featuring NACO Principal Tuba Chris Lee as soloist is the concerto’s Canadian premiere.

Wynton Marsalis a composé son Concerto pour tuba, fruit d’une commande conjointe de plusieurs ensembles dont l’Orchestre du CNA, en 2021. Il l’a écrit à l’origine pour Carol Jantsch, tuba solo de l’Orchestre de Philadelphie, qui l’a créé le 9 décembre 2021 avec l’Orchestre de Philadelphie sous la baguette de Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Depuis, l’œuvre a été interprétée par plusieurs autres tubistes et orchestres; maintenant, c’est à Chris Lee, tuba solo de l’OCNA, que revient l’honneur de jouer le concerto en première canadienne.
