Spin Buttons are interactive controls that let you increase or decrease a value with just a click—perfect for dashboards, models, and “what-if” analysis. Instead of manually typing numbers, you can give users a simple up/down button to adjust values instantly.
Here’s how to create one:
1. Go to the Developer tab on the Ribbon. (If you don’t see it, enable it under File → Options → Customize Ribbon and check Developer.)
2. In the Controls group, click Insert, then choose the Spin Button (Form Control).
3. Click anywhere on your sheet to draw the Spin Button.
4. Right-click the Spin Button and select Format Control.
5. In the Control tab, set the following:
o Cell Link → choose the cell that will display the Spin Button’s value.
o Minimum value → the lowest number the Spin Button can produce.
o Maximum value → the highest number allowed.
o Incremental change → how much the value increases or decreases with each click.
Once set up, clicking the arrows on the Spin Button will update the linked cell automatically. You can then use that cell in formulas, charts, or models to create interactive reports.
