Over 23 million ounces of gold have been extracted from this mining district since 1890, which is worth about $38 billion at September 2022 prices.

The Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mine on Battle Mountain is owned and operated by the Newmont Mining Corporation. This open pit operation includes areas containing the former Altman, Cresson, and Independence Mines, among others.

Future plans include restoration of the area.
