2016 Audi A4 Review : 2.0 TFSI Quattro

This is the 2016 Audi A4, and I know what you’re thinking: it looks just like the 2015 Audi A4. And you’d be right, except for one thing: it’s 90% new, so while the outside might be evolutionary, the rest of the car is revolutionary.

The ninth-generation of Audi’s mid-size executive car sports the latest corporate look, and is slightly longer and wider than the car it replaces. But weight-saving construction techniques have resulted in savings of up to 65 kilos, despite an increase in standard equipment.

Spearheading the high-tech equipment charge are adaptive LED headlights, which are standard across the entire A4 line-up.

You can option Advanced Matrix beam headlights for $1700, that use information from the car’s multiple sensors to automatically turn off individual diodes to not blind oncoming drivers.

Audi has long been known for producing benchmark quality interiors, and now they’ve outdone themselves. Have a look at this. Clean sweep on the dash, the knurled finish on the dials, the tactile materials, it’s so far ahead of the competition.

And give you an idea of how anal Audi has been about shaving weight off this car, the steering wheel frame is made with magnesium, so is the frame around screen and frame of the seatbacks.

For the first time the larger MMI Navigation plus system is standard across the range, featuring a high-res 8.3-inch centre screen controlled by the MMI touchpad. It looks great, and doesn’t suffer from glare.

The latest system incorporates 10GB music storage, live traffic updates, and both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The car’s voice control system has been further developed and now understands natural phrases, like “Where is the nearest Chinese restaurant?”, or “Where can I fill up?”

Premium models also get DAB+ digital radio.

A must-have is the $2100 Tecknik package which adds Audi’s virtual cockpit – a fully digital instrument cluster with 12.3-inch screen. It’s crystal clear and very customisable. You also get a head-up display in the windscreen.

If you’re into music, this 19 speaker, 755-Watt Bang & Olufsen sound system for $1500 bucks is a must. Trust me, it’s cracking value for money.
