Primary burr, spatter, unevenness and/or scale layers are usually removed with abrasive belts, discs or sheets. Deburring and edge rounding is carried out using flexible abrasive tools in the form of deburring discs, deburring wheels, deburring blocks, etc.. Here, secondary burrs are removed and the sheet edges are rounded up to 2mm or even larger.
In this process step, the primary and secondary burrs are removed and the edges are rounded. In order to create the prerequisites for subsequent process steps (powder coating, wet painting, electroplating, anodising, etc.) and to eliminate the risk of injury from sharp edges, the removal of the primary or secondary burr is often combined with so-called edge rounding. The roundings range from a few tenths of a millimetre to radii of 2 mm or even larger. These radii are now required by standards such as DIN EN 1090.
Deburring and edge rounding is carried out by flexible abrasive tools with high adaptability to internal and external contours such as radii, bores and cut-outs. The corresponding deburring discs, deburring rollers, deburring blocks and deburring brushes are used on manual machines as well as grinding and deburring machines. They have, for example, planetary head systems or oscillating aggregates for uniform processing of the edges.
This video shows the use of the boeck deburring disc on a hand-held machine. The deburring disc conforms to the edges and surface of the workpiece and rounds off the workpiece edges in the process. Manual deburring is possible on any variable-speed angle grinder or polishing machine. The prerequisite is an M14 thread mount and a maximum speed of 2000 rpm.
