Petit poisson d’une vingtaine de centimètre, la motelle à cinq barbillons est très commune sur les estrans de la Manche et de l’Atlantique Nord-Est. C’est un poisson benthique qui ne s’éloigne jamais du rivage et affectionne particulièrement les côtes rocheuses ! Il possède une tête ronde qui comporte 5 barbillons : un médian sous le menton et quatre sur le museau. Son corps est élancé, généralement brun avec les flancs plus claires et dépourvu d’écailles ! La motelle à cinq barbillons se nourrit essentiellement de petits crustacés, de mollusques et de vers.

A small fish measuring around twenty centimetres, the fivebeard rockling is very common on the foreshore of the English Channel and the North-East Atlantic. It is a benthic fish that never goes far from the shore and is particularly fond of rocky coasts! It has a round head with five barbels: a median barb under the chin and four on the snout. Its body is slender, generally brown with lighter sides and no scales! The fivebeard rockling feeds mainly on small crustaceans, molluscs and worms.
