Jacki Klancher Presents Glaciers, Graduates, and Geospatial Science

Описание к видео Jacki Klancher Presents Glaciers, Graduates, and Geospatial Science

During the March Draper Lunchtime Expedition, Jacki Klancher presented, "Glaciers, Graduates, and Geospatial Science: Planning for an Uncertain Future While Engaging Students in Scientific Research – the CWC Interdisciplinary Climate Change Expedition (ICCE)".

In 2014 Central Wyoming College faculty Jacki Klancher and her colleagues Darran Wells, and Todd Guenther began leading students on remote field expeditions in Wyoming through a program called ICCE – the Interdisciplinary Climate Change Expedition. This program combines hands-on field research and education in glacier, geospatial archaeological and environmental science with high elevation wilderness travel. During her March 2 presentation Klancher will discuss the ICCE Glacier research, its role in engaging undergraduate students, and next steps for the research and the program.

Jacki has been leading mountain expeditions since the early 90’s through her work with the National Outdoor Leadership School (Nols) based in Lander, Wyoming. In 2014 she began combining backcountry travel with scientific research. Over the past decade she has worked with a number of critical partners to design research expeditions for undergraduates across the globe – from Wyoming, to Tanzania and most recently to Everest Base Camp. Though the destinations are distant from each other, the complex challenges facing high elevation environments are not dissimilar. Jacki plans to continue to document changes in alpine environments and share her work with students, and the public.
