A hero stone Veeragallu or Mastigallu in Kannada is a memorial commemorating the honorable death of a hero in battle. Hero stones are found all over India and also in Karnataka. From the time of Kadamba dynasty hero stones are in practice.
The earliest in Karnataka is dated to the 5th century AD.[6] The custom of erecting memorial stones dates back to the Iron Age (400 BC) though a vast majority were erected between the 4th century BC to 13th centuries AD

We are trying to explore the Herostones and inscription stones around Karnataka and trying to find the story behind each.
This series of "Kathe heluva kallugalu" (Stories by Stones) is a small effort to dig into the History of Karnataka.
