As the world unites for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), ADHI Rwanda, in collaboration with the Government of Rwanda, hosted a side event to shed light on pioneering sustainable housing technologies with transformative potential for reducing CO2 emissions and embodied carbon. The company made a significant impact at the conference, showcasing its transformative Bwiza housing initiative and achieving the prestigious "EDGE Champion" status—an esteemed recognition of its unwavering commitment to resource-efficient and zero-carbon buildings.
This landmark event not only marked a turning point for ADHI but also served as a platform to highlight their existing achievements in creating affordable, green-certified housing estates in Rwanda. In addition, the company announced a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shelter Afrique, a Pan-African institution dedicated to financing and promoting housing and urban development.
The collaboration outlined in the MoU signifies a shared vision between ADHI and Shelter Afrique to revolutionize affordable and sustainable housing solutions. This begins with the co-financing of the second phase of the Bwiza Riverside Housing Project in Rwanda. Furthermore, ADHI and Shelter Afrique will collaborate to scale up the project across Shelter-Afrique's member states, aligning with various initiatives, including green building designs, gender inclusion, SMEs, last-mile infrastructure, Islamic finance, and more.
Central to ADHI's impactful presentation and panel discussion was the Bwiza housing initiative, a testament to the company's dedication to the "Sponge City" concept. Throughout the discussion titled “Building Sustainable, Affordable Housing for a Carbon Neutral Future: The Crucial Role of Public Private Partnerships in Scaling Up”, ADHI showcased its commitment to building resilient communities. The panel highlighted the challenges faced in laying foundations for more carbon-neutral housing and urban development, and the role that public-private partnerships can play in meeting the increasing demand for dignifying homes, ADHI further demonstrated its holistic approach to sustainable infrastructure, emphasizing responsible rainwater management and slope reinforcement.
The announcement of ADHI as an "EDGE Champion" further underscores the company's dedication to cutting-edge, environmentally conscious construction. EDGE, an international standard for resource-efficient and zero-carbon buildings, acknowledges ADHI's commitment to reducing its ecological footprint. This accolade reaffirms ADHI's position as a leader in sustainable real estate development, contributing to the global movement for a greener and more sustainable future.
As the world focuses on climate action and sustainable development, ADHI Rwanda's initiatives serve as a beacon of hope. Through collaboration, innovation, and dedication, ADHI demonstrates that the vision of a greener, more sustainable future is not just a possibility but a tangible reality.
