Bettys Farm and Lodge, Simbu Province, Papua New Guinea

Betty’s Trout Farm and Lodge is situated at about 2,600m on the slopes of Mt Wilhelm (4,509m), the highest mountain in Papua New Guinea, and one of the highest in Oceania. It is probably one of the more remote farms in the highlands of PNG. Here they raise goats, and ducks and other livestock and it is a wonderful place to enjoy life on a farm. There are a few hiking trails from the property, the most common being the trek to Mt Wilhelm Base camp (3,600m), and the glacial lakes. Summiteers also base themselves out of Betty’s Lodge. Because of its remoteness, just getting to the farm is an adventure in itself. For avid birdwatchers the avifauna here is amazing. Although located in the tropics, it gets cold here! In fact, during the Southern Hemisphere winters it may drop to almost zero degrees Celsius at night. So go prepared for the cold. Go check this place out.
