As many kids are getting ready to go back to school this time of year, I’m reminded of the profound experience I had in March 2021 when I had the privilege, as an officer for the Children of War Foundation, to travel to the Syrian border and produce a video that captured a powerful reality. There are countless children around the world who don’t have the luxury of education, but the kids I met there were among the lucky ones—they were given a chance to learn, even if it meant attending school in a tent. This is the "School of Dreams," an initiative the Children of War Foundation launched in 2018 at the Syrian border. Their motto, "We believe all children, despite where they are or where they start, should be able to reach for their dreams," resonates deeply with me.

I believe education is a fundamental human right, and when children are given the chance to learn, they can change the world. This belief drives me every day, and I am committed to championing the cause of education for all children, especially those in the most remote and underserved areas, regardless of their political beliefs, religion, or location. This cause is particularly close to my heart because of the struggles my own mother faced due to a lack of education.

At the Children of War Foundation, our motto is "Changing the world, one child at a time." As we begin this fall semester, I hope we all take a moment to appreciate the incredible gift of education that we often take for granted in this country. Let’s ensure that every child, no matter where they are in the world, has the same opportunity to learn, grow, and reach for their dreams. This is a mission I will dedicate my life to, especially in places where girls face even greater barriers to education.
