Cameron Park Zoo Full Tour - Waco, Texas

Cameron Park Zoo is a 52-acre (21 ha) natural habitat zoo located within Cameron Park in the city of Waco, Texas, United States, next to the Brazos River. Established in July 1993, Cameron Park Zoo has lush native vegetation that surrounds splashing waterfalls, a picturesque lake, and ponds. And in the midst of all this beauty, visitors see that the wild ones not only survive in their natural habitat, but they also flourish. The zoo features a diverse collection that includes over 1731 animals, representing 300 species from around the world.

The Cameron Park Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and is a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA).

Cameron Park
Cameron Park Zoo is located with Cameron Park. Cameron Park covers 416 acres (168 ha), and is one of the largest undeveloped municipal parks in Texas. It is located at the intersection of the Bosque River and Brazos River. Situated in Waco's Cameron Park, the zoo enjoys lush native vegetation and adjoins nearby limestone cliffs, which provide an excellent view of Waco.

Exhibits
The lush native vegetation of Cameron Park Zoo serves as a backdrop for exciting exhibits featuring animals that are indigenous to North America as well as exotic species from around the world. Natural habitats combined with excellent animal care creates an environment where animals thrive.

GIBBON ISLAND
Upon entering Cameron Park Zoo, visitors are often greeted with the songs of a pair of white-handed gibbons calling from their lush island habitat. With the large wooden deck overlooking the lake and gibbon habitat.

BALD EAGLE
Our national emblem, the Bald eagle, is housed in an aviary near the Meadows.

GALAPAGOS TORTOISE
The Galapagos tortoise exhibit is home to Gilligan, the Professor, and Skipper.

SOUTH AMERICA
One of the zoo’s busiest places for little people is Grammy Nell’s, and directly across from that place is one of the zoo’s busiest places for little animals: El Rey de la Montaña. This South American habitat is very diverse, featuring mammals, birds, and reptiles.

BRAZOS RIVER COUNTRY
The Brazos River Country is one of the brightest jewels of Cameron Park Zoo’s many treasures.

HERPETARIUM
The Cameron Park Zoo Herpetarium demonstrates the diversity of species that inhabit similar environments throughout the world.

AFRICAN SAVANNA
The African Savanna is home to African hoof stock, elephants, and white rhinos. Perhaps the best vantage point for this exhibit is the Treetops Deck adjacent to the Treetops Café. From this area, the visitor gets the feel of being on safari in Africa watching the animals meander across the savanna.

WHITE RHINOCEROS
The large White rhinoceros paddock allows ample room for these massive animals to wallow in mud, take sand baths, or drink from the pool that separates their habitat from the African hoof stock.

AFRICAN ELEPHANT
African elephant, Tembo, enjoys this large habitat at Cameron Park Zoo. A pool offers her a place to cool off while large depressions in the rockwork and termite mounds offer places for keepers to hide enrichment treats and a tall enrichment pole allows Tembo to forage for treats overhead.

LEMUR ISLAND
Across the lake from Gibbon Island lies Lemur Island.

AFRICAN LION
At the beginning of the walkway leading to the African Savanna the visitor encounters the “King of Beasts,” the African lions.

SUMATRAN TIGER
Cameron Park Zoo visitors begin their journey through the Asian Forest exhibit at the Sumatran tiger habitat.

ASIAN FOREST
Imagine traveling into the jungle to encounter an abandoned Asian temple inhabited by Bornean orangutans and Komodo dragons. This is your experience in the Asian Forest expansion at Cameron Park Zoo.
