The Hongdae area around Hongik University is a student town, so it is a sightseeing spot that you can't miss when traveling to Korea, which is crowded with art students and young Koreans. The number of foreign students and tourists, who had decreased due to the corona crisis, was gradually increasing as immigration restrictions were eased.
There are more commercial buildings around Hongik Univ. Station, so you can feel the urban atmosphere.
Drinks and restaurants are lined up on Hongdae Walk Street, which is right next to the subway station. At night, street performances such as dance and live music are held in the square on the street. It was canceled due to the pandemic, but due to the relaxation of quarantine measures, I was able to see "Busking", which means a live performance on the street.
After crossing the main street, you will find Hongdae Shopping Street (former Hongdae Parking Street). When it comes to Hongdae, shopping is a must. The street on this side is lined with cheap and cute clothing stores, accessories and miscellaneous goods stores. There are also many photo booths where you can take “인생네컷 (4 cuts of life)” like the ID photo that is popular in Korea now.
Enjoy an evening stroll from Hongik Univ. Station to Sangsang Madang building.
