Fear of driving in unfamiliar areas case study

Описание к видео Fear of driving in unfamiliar areas case study

Fear of driving in unfamiliar areas was a problem for a client I worked with. In this video, I explain what the problem really was and how finding the root cause allowed him to go out driving anywhere he wanted. Watch more case studies here . Horses for courses. Different therapies work for different people so if these work for you then great and don't let it put you off using them.

The point of this videos is that some people go about fixing a problem in the wrong way. Instead of using something that works and can be explained, they come up with a gimmicky method like rubbing your arms or turning anti-clockwise in front of a clock at midnight because people who have anxiety are often desperate and will try anything to get over it.

I believe in using a method that works because it's based on sceince and our understanding of the mind. Yes, there is an element of the unknown and things can happen in therapy such as people cryng without knowing why or thinking of things in their mind that lead to the answer. The difference is that those unexplainable things happen because we're heading in the right direction. We're not just coming up with some unproven weird idea with a flimsy theory behind it.

I had success in overcoming a problem myself with EMDR but it wasn't the EMDR that did it. When you know how therapy really works, and I mean REALLY works at a deep level, you understand why and how these techniques aren't what they appear.

Here's a quote from Derren Brown about various therapy techniques. You will find it in his book Tricks of the Mind page 212 last paragraph "The value of methods such as this, I feel, lies not in the techniques themselves but the fact that they tend to undo the general feeling that we have to be `stuck` in unhelpful patterns of thought".

Finally, I'd like to point out that I made this video when I was having a bad day. The significance behind this may be revealed to you in a future video.
