Pecos River Camping I - EP 48

My pup Katie & myself headed out on an adventure to boat from Box Canyon boat ramp on Lake Amistad, TX to a camping spot on the Pecos river for a few nights. And an adventure it was. Lake Amistad and the Rio Grande are at record low levels now (2021). I traveled in a 17'-0" aluminum flat bottom boat with a 37 HP mud motor engine. Some stretches of the Rio Grande were 6 inch's deep with the motor skeg riding thru mud. Other stretches were narrow with cliff on the side. All in all a great scenic boat ride. Seminole Canyon was completely silted in. I wanted to check out Panther Cave but could not. The Pecos river just before HWY 90 bridge was 3" to 4" deep and I did get stuck running too slow on a sand bottom. I Drifted down river 1/2 mile to deeper water to get back on plane and motored thru this area at a faster pace. The dispersed camping spot 6 miles up the Pecos that I camped was very nice. Perfect weather, no issues during trip and Katie had a Blast.
