Many people have questions about setting up and adjusting this very useful $2.00 electronic module being sold online. This video explains how to use the module both as a voltmeter and as a voltage converter. Please note that there is no audio for the first 30 seconds (or so) of this video.

I am not affiliated in any way with sellers of this device. I made the video in response to questions that were asked on a model railroading discussion forum.

Answers to Common Questions:

1. According to the eBay seller from whom I purchased this module, here are a few of its specifications. I have NOT independently verified these specifications.
Input voltage: 4-40 VDC
Output voltage: 1.25-37 VDC
Output current: 2 A
Voltmeter range: 0-40 VDC

2. This module uses the LM2596S regulator chip. There are many similar modules of this type available online. Some of them use the LM2596S; others use a different regulator. However, I have not experimented with any module other than the exact unit shown in my video. Other modules may have different specifications or may perform differently.

3. This module is a step-DOWN voltage converter. The output voltage can NEVER be greater than the input voltage. The module cannot be used as a step-UP voltage converter.

4. Some users of this module have complained that the output voltage does not change when the small brass adjustment screw is turned. Try turning the screw counter-clockwise MANY times. It may require 10 or more counter-clockwise turns before the output voltage begins to change.

I have five of these modules, and all of them have required at least 10 counter-clockwise turns of the adjustment screw.
