A Bit of History & What Makes Tai O Special

Tai O is one of Hong Kong’s oldest fishing villages, founded during the Ming Dynasty by the Tanka people, who built homes on stilts over tidal flats

Once famed for making salted fish and shrimp paste, its population has declined from around 30,000 to just about 2,000 today
