Have you ever noticed, when you comb your hair vigorously your hair strands start raising towards the comb? Or sometimes you see balloons sticking on the wall after it is rubbed against your clothes or hands?

This is no magic. All of this happens because of static electricity. Static electricity is the result of an imbalance between negative and positive charges in an object. Meaning static electricity is produced while two opposite charges are put together. Like charges repel each other and vice versa.

Because of this static electricity we experience a natural phenomenon called Lightning and earthquake.

Eventually, the whole cloud fills up with electrical charges. Lighter, positively charged particles form at the top of the cloud and heavier, negatively charged particles sink to the bottom of the cloud.

When the positive and negative charges grow large enough, a giant spark - lightning - occurs between the two charges within the cloud. This is like a static electricity sparks you see, but much bigger.
Earthquakes happen when two large pieces of the Earth's crust suddenly slip. This causes shock waves to shake the surface of the Earth in the form of an earthquake.

Let’s learn more about Natural phenomenon in this video.
